Todmorden Climbing Wall
Climbing'skool is a small venue situated in the heart of Tomorden. Although the wall its self is small we are surrounded by a wealth of outdoor climbing and hill walking venues.
We are approaching spring now. As the weather gets better we aim to take our groups out on to the hills to provide adventurous learning in this amazing part of the world.
Ropes
We have 12 roped routes all around 8m tall that vary in grade.
We aim to cater for all abilities at Climbing'skool. There are some easier climbs for the smaller children and some higher graded routes for the bigger kids who are looking for a challenge.
Bouldering
The bouldering area has around 40 problems that range from kids grades to V7 / V8.
The boulder wall gets reset every 6 weeks so get those problems crushed before they go.
Circuit Board
Our circuit board is one of our newest editions. The board is 14m long and has a 10degree overhang. There is a mixture of circuits all set to test your technical ability.
We were privileged to have had Carl Dawson, author of 'on peak rock' set the first route on the wall and he named it 'on yer tod'.
Training Area
We have started developing a Training area at Climbing'skool. So far we have a Campus board and gym rings.
This area is strictly for over 16s however it is a great tool to get strong and develop those powerful moves.
Community
The Calder valley and its surrounding areas are home to many adventurous people. Jason Pickles, Ian Burton and Carl Dawson to name just a few climbers.
The young people in Calderdale have been brought up in an era, although they may not realise, that is pushing the boundaries of understanding adventure sports such as climbing.
At Climbing'skool we aim to provide learning for young people to go forward and inspire the next generation. We hope to pass on a love of exploration and the great pleasure that outdoor adventures can provide us with.
Adventurous Activity Licence
Todmorden Climbing Wall have been awarded a 3 year Adventurous Activities Licence (AALA). This licence qualifys us to take any one under the age of 17 out climbing, bouldering and Hill walking.
Over the summer break we will be conducting outdoor climbing sessions and hill walking sessions every week.
Outdoor rock climbing for adults and children
Our Kids and Adult rock climbing sessions take us to some of the most beautiful country side throughout Yorkshire.
Whether you are a beginner or you would like to take your outdoor climbing to the next level, learning to climb on real rock or learning to lead climb, We can provide you with the experience nessasary to take you to the next stage in your outdoor experiences.
Navigation, history and conservation sessions
Through the summer we will be running basic, intermediate and advanced navigation sessions for adults.
The basic sessions cover map reading, how the map realtes to the ground and how to use these tools to fid your way around.
The intermidiate session will introduce the use of a compas and walking on bearings.
The advanced session will include an over night camping trip and a night navigation exersize.
Kids sessions
The Kids sessions will cover basic navigation and, dependant on the groups ability, some intermediate navigation.
The sessions will focus on the geoglogy and history of the land, how it has changed through time and how we are influencing changes with conservation, construction and recreational activities.
As well as having fun we aim to teach essential navigation skills and provide some education too.
